SOP Template

Write one standard operating procedure in fifteen minutes: trigger, steps, owner, tools, success.

If you do the same task twice in one week, write it down once. An SOP needs five things: what starts it, the steps, one owner, the tools, and what success looks like.

Specific beats vague. Write each step so a new hire could follow it without asking you.

What starts this process? An event, a time, a request.

2. The steps

One action per step, in order.

One person or role. If different people own different steps, name them in the steps.

Software, scripts, checklists, equipment.

How you’ll know it was done right: a time, a standard, a result.

One place the team can always find it.

Check it at your monthly system audit.
